The Ultimate 28-Day Financial Fitness Routine: Days 9 and 10
Day 9 ~ Open up a savings account at a bank that doesn’t service your checking account.
Out of sight and out of mind is the philosophy behind this one. Think of it as stashing away money in your backyard. If you can’t see it every day, you won’t be tempted to spend it.
A few online options are: simple.com and ally.com
Day 10 ~ Brainstorm on ways to save.
No idea is a bad one, don’t restrict yourself on how much the savings need to be. Write each idea down as it comes to you without judging what will or won’t work. After you’ve spent 15-20 minutes writing, review each item. Consider which are the most feasible ideas and jot them on a separate list. Try for at least 3. Remember – this is all about creating new financial habits.
Your final list may contain items like these:
Commit to packing your lunch and beverages (including your morningg coffee run) for the office at least 3 days a week. That could quickly save $30 a week/$120 a month.
Why didn’t we suggest all 5 days? It is important to maintain relationships within your organization. Most relationships blossom over lunch hour away from the office. This can be important to your future success.
If your city has an easy metro transportation system, take public transportation twice a week or Carpool with a work buddy.
1.)Grocery shop only once a week — with a list and not while you are hungry.
2.)Adopt a Sunday evening routine of cooking a few dishes for the week and sticking them in the fridge or freezer for the coming week.
3.)Adopt the 72-hour rule when it comes to purchases — if you can live without it for 72 hours, you probably don’t need it.
4.)Push the hair cut and/or color appointment out one more week…a bang trim might allow for buying yourself a little more time.
5.)Pay attention to your thermostat when leaving home for the day. Take it up a few degrees in the summer and down a few degrees in the winter.
Once placed on your final list, these are not just savings ideas, they are action items to implement!
