How much food gets eaten on big game weekend? A crazy, ridiculous lot!
Anybody getting hungry?
If statistics are to be believed, you all are. Because the upcoming big game day weekend is the second-biggest eating binge of the year, just behind Thanksgiving. That’s according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
We do love to snack while we watch. Whether we’re there for the game, the commercials or just the friends, the combined gustatory heft of all of those parties we’re going to is almost beyond belief:
- We’ll eat 11.2 million pounds of potato chips.
- It’s the busiest day of the year for pizza delivery shops
- We’ll eat 1.33 billion chicken wings. To put that one in perspective, the National Chicken Council (who knows its chicken) says that many wings would circle the earth three times! And go very nicely with some fiery Buffalo Sauce.
Pick your favorite food or drink. Chances are, aside from turkey and stuffing, whatever it is, this week is the biggest week of the year for it. And somewhere, right now, a trade association is writing a press release about it.
So, eat up, and enjoy the game!
And, after it’s all said and done, if these numbers get you thinking about the people in your community who may not always have enough to eat, be sure to check out your local food banks or a national organization like Feeding America, where they’re always looking for donations of your money and time to help.
You might ask: Why so many football posts? In January 2017, we launched BigGameLending.com in honor of our hometown Atlanta team making it to the big game, and our sponsorship of big game talk and coverage on 92.9 The Game here in Atlanta.
